Seven Lessons We Can Learn from The Ant
Proverbs 6:6 “Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways and be wise.”
The scriptures tell us to “go to the ant, you sluggard.” (OUCH! That’s harsh. But does loafer, shirker or good-for-nothing sound any better? Sadly, this shoe fits me.) “Consider her (the ant’s) ways and be wise.” What are her ways?
Lesson One–Be Industrious
Be Diligent and Hardworking: Ants are never lazy. Neither do they procrastinate. (I definitely need this lesson.)
Lesson Two–Be Self-Motivated
They have no commander or supervisor to tell them what to do, and yet they get the work done; each having and knowing their duties.
Lesson Three–Be Prepared
Ants look ahead following a strategic plan to prepare for the next season.
Lesson Four–Work Together
Ants make a united front. They know how to use teamwork to get things done. You hardly ever see one ant without another (and more) close by. A lone ant may be a scout, but when it comes to the work, he gathers his team.
Lesson Five–Never Give Up
Ants have a “Can do” attitude. Put an obstacle in their way and ants will not be deterred. They will find another path. They may go up, under, or around, but they continue toward their destination. Whatever happens today, know the outcome is dependent on one thing, attitude. When things don’t go your way, try to see from a different perspective. I know my attitude toward my problems makes all the difference. Get over around or under the obstacle and keep going toward the prize God has for you.
Lesson Six–Be Courageous
Size doesn’t matter. No matter how big the opposition ants are not discouraged. I’ve heard it said that “ants can make even an elephant dance.”
Lesson Seven–Be Bold, But Helpful
Ants can be invasive and seem to take over your lawn or garden. Remember, ants have a purpose. It’s their job to eat the mites and worms underground that do damage to your lawn. So, they help your lawn. Ants also clean up the unhealthy or dead. Is it possible God wants us to be more invasive? To be a bolder witness, and doing good to those who are in need? What is your purpose?
The Optimal Lesson is, Be Wise
I know, I know. ANTS BITE. Okay, so there is another lesson we can learn from the ant. A kind of antihero lesson. DON’T bite your neighbor.
